Novel approach to Customize and Trim a TR-PTFE Membrane Using a 3D-Printed Upper Jaw Model
Dr Sascha A Jovanovic & Prof Massimo Simion
----
This clinical video presents a novel approach by Drs. Jovanovic and Simion for precise and sterile trimming of TR-PTFE membranes prior to guided bone regeneration surgery. Utilizing a 3D-printed upper jaw model derived from the patient’s CBCT data, the jaw model is sterilized, and the membrane is custom-cut in a sterile environment immediately before surgery. This innovative method eliminates the need to transfer the membrane in and out of the surgical oral site, reducing the risk of contamination with oral bacteria or saliva. Additionally, it enhances efficiency by saving valuable surgical time, ensuring optimal precision and sterility in membrane preparation. The patient site demonstrated was a severe anterior upper jaw deficiency after a traumatic accident. This patient has successfully been treated with a complete regeneration to the deficient site and placement of 2 implants.
