A Step-by-Step Digital Workflow to Design a 3D Printed Sinus Window and Septum Surgical Guide
by Dr. Natasa Gregoric
----
This clinical video of Dr Gregoric continues her focus on digital Workflow in implant surgery and provides an easy step-by-step demonstration of the workflow (CoDiagnostix) involved in designing, and applying 3D printed guides for surgical procedures in cases involving a sinus window approach with a sinus septum. This approach offers precise guidance for surgeons, enhancing accuracy and efficiency. Through this presentation, viewers gain valuable insights into the process, from initial design to the practical application of these advanced surgical tools, aimed at optimizing outcomes in lateral sinus wall elevation surgeries complicated by septal structures.
Systematic review and meta-analysis¹ shows that one-third of patients have maxillary septa, potentially being one of the main risk factors for sinus membrane perforation² and reducing successful sinus floor elevation for implants. 3D imaging is recommended, enabling clinicians to easily visualize the sinus anatomy and a sinus septum³ and to improve treatment predictability. According to Teixeira et al.⁴, computer aided surgery might be beneficial in cases of sinus septum, allowing to transfer its exact position from CBCT.
